The
Public Enquiry of 2007 was adjourned after traffic forecast surveys were found
to have errors. These will have to be repeated and many of the other studies
will now need updating.
The Highways association will reconvene in February 2008 to confirm what errors have been made and identified a way forward with the reviewing of its evidence.
It should be noted that for the bypass to be built the public enquiry has to be favorable and the Government has to find the funds it has promised.
The decision whether to proceed with the scheme will be taken after the Secretary of State for Transport has considered the Inspectors Report.
The earliest start to construct the bypass will be 2010 with a build time of about 2 years.
If you are affected by the heavy traffic passing through the villages and believe a Bypass to be the only viable solution please be vocal with your support.
A contract to build the Longdendale bypass has been awarded to MOWLEM PLC valued at £103 million.
The next step will be to produce draft legal orders necessary to build the road. These are required to empower the Government to purchase the necessary land and buildings, obtain access to build and if necessary close existing roads. This process is scheduled to be completed by early 2006 and is the responsibility of the Highways Agency. It will be followed mid 2007 by a public inquiry carried out by the Highways Agency supported by MOWLEM PLC.
